Car Problems

On my way home from my last Cultural Arts Script Committee meeting, I dropped off some fabric for costumes to Marilyn Lorensen's home in Riverton.  When I tried to start my car again, nothing happened.  I tried several times more to no avail.  I only heard the very weak ding, ding, ding sound of the seat belt warning.  So, I got out of my car and looked under the hood (like I was going to know what to do).  Anyway, I wiggled the cable to the battery and scraped a little corrosion off of the battery terminal, but when I again turned the key in the ignition, nothing happened.

I looked around.  I had parked my Avalon in front of Marilyn's home which was situated on a quiet street in a quiet neighborhood at the end of a quiet cull-de-sac and no one was around.  I felt helpless, except I knew where I could look for help.  I bowed my head and prayed a simple prayer.  I told Heavenly Father that I really needed His help.  Richard was across town doing some apartment work, and we needed to leave for our MTC language training in about 75 minutes, and we just didn't have time to deal with car problems at the moment.  So, I prayed for help to start my car.

I repeated wiggling the battery cable and scraping the corrosion, and then I got into the car and turned the ignition key again.  The lights on the dash board flickered, then lit up like a Christmas tree and the engine started right up.  Whew!  I hurried to put the hood down, got back into my purring car, offered a thank-you prayer, and drove home.

When Richard returned home, we rode down to the MTC in our Explorer.

When we arrived home, Richard decided to try starting the Avalon.  He sat in the car and turned the ignition key, but nothing happened. He tried again and again, but still nothing at all. The car made absolutely no sound at all--not even the faint ding, ding, ding of the seat belt warning.  Our Avalon was was dead.

Even though we still had a car problem, we had made it to our MTC training on time, had a great session,  and now we had time to deal with the problem, so I thanked the Lord for this blessing.  I am grateful that He answered my prayer in time of need.

  1. Mom, that gave me chills! You are doing what the Lord wants you to and he will continue to bless you and dad for doing it.

(I should be packing right now but I needed a quick break. . .back to work!)
